Elkton, MN Crawlspace Repair
Challenge
The homeowner had a large dirt crawlspace under the entire home. Moisture was the main concern, and was leading to air quality concerns in the living space. The exposed soil represented a large square footage, and was also a significant heat loss concern. Additionally, water was entering the crawlspace and needed to be addressed before the encapsulation was feasible.
Solution
American Waterworks installed a sub-drainage system and sump pump to mitigate the water problem. A drainage matting was placed on the dirt soil, and Terra Block insulation was place on top to create a thermal barrier. The final step was to install the Cleanspace vapor barrier to create an airtight barrier between the soil below and the building materials. Lastly, a Sanidry air unit was placed in the crawlspace to dehumidify the large volume of air and keep the humidity within an acceptable tolerance.
