Challenge
Water causes many problems in basements, which is why American Waterworks provides a full line of quality interior basement drainage systems. Basement walls can flood from many points whether it is from the wall cracks, pipes or wires, and through basement windows. If a homeowner has block walls, water can build up in the empty spaces of each block. Eventually, that water seeps through and enters the basement.
Raymond T. of Hampton, MN had water leaking through their walls, causing them to worry about water moisture problems and flooding hazards. They saw that we provide FREE Estimates, so they called our office line and scheduled an inspection with our Design Specialist, Chad Johnson. Chad went to their home, inspected their water leaks and problems, and proposed the solution of our WaterGuard Interior Drainage System. Raymond got all of their questions answered about the product and what it could do for their home, so they went ahead with the project.
Solution
The key to solving the problem of water seeping through block walls is to give the water a way to drain out of the empty spaces. To accomplish this, our Foreman, Juan Pena, and his production team drilled "weep holes" in each block, which drained the block of water as it filled. This water was released behind the wall flange of the WaterGuard System, and directed the water into the below-floor drain.
Our WaterGuard System is made with a built-in wall flange, which extends up the basement wall by 3/8". Any water leaking from the walls will move downward and behind the flange, where it gets directed into the WaterGuard System.
Installation process:
Our crews break out the concrete floor perimeter, forming a trench. In the trench, they install our WaterGuard System which is made to prevent clogs, serve as an underground drain, and collect water seepage from basement walls. To complete the installation, our crews cover any open gaps with river rock and applies new concrete over it.
