Challenge

After or before a home, building, shed, etc. is built, changes in the surrounding soil can cause foundation settlement, which eventually causes long-term problems for homeowners. Moisture changes such as drought, extreme flooding, poor compacted soil, and more can lead to soil movement. The movement shifts and settles the home, which eventually causes walls to crack, and floors or foundations to sink.

A homeowner in northern Minnesota was experiencing these soil changes before their shed was even built. To help with time, efficiency, and money savings, they wanted to work with a contractor that could provide pre-construction work to give the shed a base to build off of. They went online and looked up contractors in their service area that professionalized in that kind of work. They got in contact with our Design Specialist, Rick, and had him come to their land to inspect the property and determine what product would work best. Rick proposed our Helical Pier System, which are made to transfer the weight of the home to bedrock (the lowest layer of soil beneath the ground), to stabilize the home's foundation. The homeowner got all of their questions answered and felt confident in our work, so they signed Rick's proposal.

Solution

Our Foreman, Tremaine, and his foundation repair crew installed 18 of our Helical Piers through the soil until they hit bedrock. Along with its design, our piers will not add weight to the problem soil, the pier itself is galvanized so it will not rust, it is made for heavy and light loads, and it provides minimal disturbance to the home, building, etc. The installation took about two days, and to complete the project, Tremaine provided a thorough walkthrough with the homeowner to ensure they were comfortable with the work that was done and if they had any last-minute questions. The homeowner had a great experience with our team from start to finish!
