Radon Mitigation System Installed in Rochester, MN
Challenge
Radon is a naturally occurring, dangerous gas that comes from the soil underground. In fact, it is the second-ranked cause of lung cancer, besides cigarette smoke. Since radon is senseless, everyone living in the home is susceptible to getting lung cancer. According to the World Health Organization, radon causes 15% of the world's lung cancer cases and it kills up to 20,000 people per year, which means that it kills one person every 25 minutes. The Environmental Protection Agency says that if your home has a level of more than 4 pCi/L, your home needs to be mitigated so your radon level can be reduced. Click here to learn about why it is important to have a radon mitigation system installed in your home.
A homeowner in Rochester had the same problem. The radon level in their home read 6.7 pCi/L. One of their peers referred American Waterworks to install a radon mitigation system in their home. The homeowner got in contact with our office staff and scheduled a FREE estimate with our Design Specialist, Michel Ramirez. Michel inspected the homeowner's property and determined proper placement and provided a thorough quote for the project. The homeowner was satisfied with the price and felt confident in our company, so they went ahead with the project.
Solution
Our Foremen, Geno Mclain and Dakota Merchlewitz, began the project by introducing themselves to the homeowner and ensuring all of their questions were answered. After a thorough introduction, our crew got to work and began the installation in the utility room of their basement. The purpose of starting the install at the lowest point of the home is to create a suction point for the mitigation system to suck the radon from under the ground. From there, Geno and Dakota installed PVC piping through the home to the outside of the house, where they installed the mitigation system. This system is the heart of the system. If it is not working properly, radon will not be able to escape the home. Lastly, our team connected more PVC piping from the system alongside the siding of the home to expose the radon gas into the open air.
The homeowner was very happy with the completed project and satisfied knowing they were no longer breathing in unhealthy air. On top of that, they just had a newborn baby, so they are even more grateful!
