High Radon Levels in Rochester, MN Fixed
Challenge
A homeowner in Rochester, MN, was on social media when she came upon a post discussing the danger that radon poses in homes. She learned that radon is a by-product of uranium, a naturally occurring radioactive element that breaks down in soil. As it decays, it produces radium and polonium. Eventually, polonium is released with radon, which creates a toxic level in the air. Concerned that her family was unknowingly breathing in the toxic fumes, she searched for radon mitigation services in the area. She came upon our website and was impressed with our reviews and contacted us to schedule her FREE estimate.
Solution
Our Design Specialist, Romeo V., arrived at the home and began testing the radon levels in the home. He placed our continuous radon monitoring test at the lowest level of the home and explained to the homeowner that it would need to run for at least 48 hours. He also told the homeowner that if the results were not in dangerous levels, it was always good to test the radon levels of your home as we cannot smell, see, hear, or taste radon. The homeowner agreed, and in about a week, the test results came back above 4 pCi/L, which is the EPA's required action level for radon. The homeowner informed Romeo of the test results, and they scheduled a date for our Foreman, Dakota M.
In a couple of weeks, Dakota and his crew arrived for the installation. Our radon mitigation system consists of a large-diameter plastic pipe that connects the air beneath the foundation to the outside of your home. An in-line fan is placed beneath the foundation that will suction out the radon gas and lead it outside. This design is meant to tackle the radon-rich air before it can reach your home. Once the crew was done with the installation, they cleaned up their equipment and left the home. Now, our customer can breathe in fresh clean air!
