Damp Basement Gets Transformed in Owatonna, MN

Challenge

A homeowner from Owatonna, MN, was growing frustrated with his space. You see, each time it rained, the homeowner fell victim to water pooling in his basement. He didn't want to deal with the problem any longer, so he began to search for MN basement waterproofing and eventually found our website. He signed up for his FREE estimate, and a few weeks later, Lance S, one of our Design Specialists, made a stop at the home.

Solution

Lance took his time to do a thorough inspection of the home, and when he concluded, he was ready to make his recommendations as to how American Waterworks could help. First, Lance wanted to utilize our CleanSpace, a 100% waterproof vapor barrier that gets installed directly on the unfinished basement walls. This unique product works to trap water entering the home through cracks or holes in the foundation, directing it down and into a perimeter drain, which, in this case, Lance recommended to be our WaterGuard. WaterGuard is a French drainage system that gets installed below the floor of the basement but atop the footing of the foundation, keeping it out of the "mud zone" where similar drains tend to clog. It works to collect water entering the floor and the CleanSpace on the wall above, giving it a channel to a disposal site. As for the disposal site, Lance was recommending our TripleSafe sump pump to handle the heavy water. Our TripleSafe is the most reliable pump on the system, providing three levels of protection for your basement and your peace of mind. During normal functioning, the TripleSafe boasts a powerful, cast-iron Zoeller® ⅓ horsepower sump pump set at the lowest level. For heavy volumes of water or in case of primary pump failure, a second, more powerful Zoeller® ½ hp pump set a bit higher in the liner will take over. To finish off the basement waterproofing, Lance was recommending an extra layer of protection, our AprilAire dehumidifier. Even a basement with an effective waterproofing system can still develop moisture and mold problems and may feel damp. Concrete walls and floors continually absorb moisture from the soil and release it into the air in your basement, and store-bought dehumidifiers simply aren't strong enough to solve the problem. Adding an Aprilaire dehumidifier creates healthy air and can reduce the number of viable viruses in the air to less than 1% in two days when set to 50% RH. The homeowner liked the sound of Lance's comprehensive plan and scheduled the work for several weeks later.

On the day of the project, our production team, led by their Foreman, Jeromy A, installed 132 ft of WaterGuard, 1 TripleSafe, 136 ft of CleanSpace, and 1 AprileAire dehumidifier. Now our customer can rest easy knowing his basement has the best line of defense on the market!
