Damp Basement Gets Transformed in Edina, MN
Challenge
A homeowner from Edina, MN, was facing an issue. The lower level of his home had a bedroom that the family utilized when guests visited. However, this room would often take on small amounts of water, and the homeowner was worried about potential mold growth. While on the internet, searching for 'mold resistant basement wall panels', the homeowner found our website. They were impressed with our basement wall waterproofing products and signed up for one of our FREE estimates.
Solution
A few weeks later, Daniel R, one of our Design Specialists, headed out to the home to see what could be done. He completed several tests in the space which all indicated that the relative humidity was very high, which would be the ideal setting for mold growth. Daniel wanted to use two of our products to address the problem. First, Daniel wanted to use our CleanSpace vapor barrier. CleanSpace® Wall is a 100% waterproof plastic vapor barrier that's perfect for unfinished basement walls. With a 25-year warranty [PDF] for wear and tear, it's durable, washable, and has anti-microbial protection called UltraFresh built right in! CleanSpace® is pliable enough to cover uneven surfaces and irregular walls, including areas with large rocks or similar obstacles. Additionally, it's a great way to prevent humidity from making its way through your concrete walls and into your basement. Along with the CleanSpace, Daniel wanted to use our WaterGuard drain. The WaterGuard® System is an award-winning, patented below-floor drain that rests in a bed of drainage stone on top of the foundation footing. By installing the drain at this point, it's kept out of the "mud zone", the point where clogged drains are common. The unique shape and large drain openings of WaterGuard® also aid in preventing clogs in the system. This drain works to collect water being directed downward from the CleanSpace, as well as any water that may be coming in through the floor and gives it a channel to flow to a disposal site, which in this case, was a pre-placed sump pump. The homeowner agreed with Daniel's recommendation, and the job was scheduled for several weeks later.
On the day of the project, our Foreman, Kevin M, led his team through the installation. In the end, Kevin and his team installed 41ft of WaterGuard, and another 26.5 ft of CleanSpace. Now, our customers can have guests over knowing they'll be comfortable in their healthy basement!
