Waterproofed Basement in Winona, MN
Challenge
A homeowner in Winona, MN, had noticed multiple symptoms of basement damage, such as poor indoor air quality, sagging floors, and rotting wood. Concerned about the damage it was causing to his home, he asked his friends if they knew a good company that did basement waterproofing. His friends recommended American Waterworks, as we had previously helped them with basement waterproofing as well. The homeowner browsed through our website and was happy to see that we offered FREE estimates and contacted us to claim his.
Solution
Our Design Specialist, Dustin A., arrived at the home several weeks later to provide a thorough investigation of the basement. He informed the homeowner that one of the common causes of a wet basement is a failed footing drain. When this fails, it causes the soil around the foundation to become saturated. Water then seeps into cracks of the walls, eventually leading into the basement. This is why Dustin recommended our WaterGuard, a perimeter drain system that will intercept water at the perimeter of your basement and send it to your sump pump, and TripleSafe sump pump, our most reliable water pumping system with three levels of protection to keep your basement dry. Alongside the WaterGuard and TripleSafe sump pump, he also recommended IceGuard, our discharge line that is attached outside of the home to eject water away from the foundation. The homeowner was thankful for Dustin's explanation and happily agreed to his plans. Dustin's designs were then sent to our Foreman, Jeromy A.
In about a week, Jeromy and his crew arrived at the home to carry out the installations. They installed the TripleSafe sump pump by first excavating a sump pump pit for the liner and the pump to be placed in. Then, the perimeter drain system, WaterGuard, is installed. The floor around the edge of the basement is jackhammered, and a layer of clean stone is placed. The WaterGuard is placed on top of the stone and is backfilled with more clean stone. The purpose of this is to collect water from the basement walls and wall-floor joists and direct it to the sump pump. The crew installed a total of 44 ft of WaterGuard. Then, they install 2 IceGuards outside of the home. Once the drain system is connected to the sump pump, clean gravel is backfilled around the sump pump liner. Once this is set, the flooring is restored. The crew cleaned up their equipment and left the home.
