Damp Basement Gets Waterproofed in Edina, MN

A homeowner in Edina, MN, noticed damp floors and leaking walls in her basement and was concerned that it would result in permanent damage. Solution

In a couple of weeks, our Design Specialist, Daniel R., arrived at the home to inspect the basement. He informed the homeowner that one of the common causes of moisture issues in a basement is a failed footing drain. When this fails, water saturates the soil that surrounds the home's foundation. Water then enters through cracks on the wall, between the footing and the wall, or under the footing. To fix this issue, Daniel recommended our WaterGuard, our under-the-floor perimeter drain system that is designed not to clog, unlike traditional drain systems, and CleanSpace, our vapor wall barrier that collects water from the walls and directs it to the WaterGuard. The homeowner happily agreed to Daniel's suggestion, and his design was then sent to our Foreman, Kevin M.

In a couple of months, Kevin and his crew arrived at the home for the installation. 26.5ft of CleanSpace is attached to the walls with drilled-in fasteners to ensure that it stays in place. The crew also installed 41ft of WaterGuard by jackhammering the edge of the flooring and setting down clean gravel. The WaterGuard would rest on top and is backfilled with more gravel. Lastly, the flooring is restored with concrete. After the crew was done, they cleaned up their equipment and left the home.
