Lakeville City Hall Concrete Leveling
Challenge
The City of Lakeville, MN was experiencing floor settlement at City Hall. An entire 100 foot by 65 foot slab-on-grade section of the building had cracks, uneven floors, and gaps where the floors meet the walls. The affected area was used as office space containing city employee’s desks and planning rooms. Soil samples were collected and it was deemed the settlement was caused by compacted fill soils.
Solution
The City of Lakeville had a contractor remove the contents of the office space in order for American Waterworks to have access to the concrete floor. American Waterworks drilled penny sized holes through the floor and injected Polylevel – a two part high density polyurethane foam. The foam was carefully injected to fully compact soils and lift the slabs back to their original height. The remaining sections of concrete that had not yet settled were filled with foam to compact fill soils and stabilize against future settling.
