City of Winona Curb and Gutter
Challenge
The City of Winona had 680 feet of curbs that had settled. The concrete curbs had sunk up to 2 inches where they met the concrete street. The dramatic difference in height created a hazard to parking vehicles, as well as pedestrians exiting their cars and crossing streets.
Solution
American Waterworks solved the problem by drilling penny sized holes through the center of the curbs and injecting PolyLEVEL - a high density hydrophobic polyurethane foam. The PolyLEVEL foam lifted the curbs back in line with the streets, and removed all associated hazards.
The 680 feet of curbs were lifted within the four day project window. Over 1500 pounds of polyLEVEL was utilized to fully lift the curbs, and upon completion was immediately ready for vehicle traffic. The curbs were completely supported with high density foam that will not wash out, absorb water, or break down.
