Radon Mitigation System Installed in Grand Forks, ND
Challenge
Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that has become the second-leading cause of lung cancer. Since we cannot smell, taste, see, touch, or hear radon, it goes easily unnoticed. When this happens, everyone in the home becomes susceptible to contracting lung cancer. Radon-induced lung cancer kills one person every 25 minutes. Contact American Waterworks today to get a radon inspection and mitigation system in your home.
A homeowner in Grand Forks, ND had a radon level of 15.6 in their home. They were extremely worried about their health, safety, and the value of their home, so they contacted American Waterworks to learn more about our radon products and how we can reduce their levels. Our Design Specialist, Richie, went to their home and drew out a plan for where to get the mitigation system installed, and answered all of the homeowner's questions. The homeowner was confident in the plan and had a great experience, so they went ahead with the project and scheduled a date for the installation.
Solution
Our Foreman, Corey, and his production team began the project by introducing themselves to the homeowner and answering any last-minute questions they had before the installation. After a thorough introduction, our team got to work. Corey drilled a hole in the basement sump pump, and installed the PVC pipe inside of it, creating a suction point. From there, our team drilled another hole going to the crawl space, where they connected more PVC pipe. From that point, our team guided the piping to the outside of the home, where we installed the mitigation system and fan. This part of the system is the heart of the system and removes the radon from the house. If the mitigation system isn't working or if the pressure is off, the system won't work efficiently.
The installation took a few hours, and after everything was complete, Corey and his team did a brief walkthrough with the homeowner, ensuring their comfort level and answering any further questions. The homeowner was happy with the work that was done and their radon levels drastically went down!
