A homeowner from Viroqua, WI, had noticed a strange smell wafting through her home. After checking all of her suspected causes, she was stumped as to where the smell was coming from. One night, after a heavy rain, she wondered if the crawl space beneath her home could be taking on water, leading to the smell. Upon investigation, the homeowner realized that the sump pump in the crawl space had stopped functioning altogether, leading to standing water and a foul odor. Solution

Chuck took his time evaluating the basement, crawl space, and surrounding area. When he was finished, he was ready to make his recommendation. First, Chuck wanted to address the unwanted water so he recommended our CleanSpace vapor barrier. This 100% waterproof tarp-like material gets applied directly to the walls of the crawl space and works to trap water entering the space through the walls, directing it downward and into a perimeter drain, which in this case, Chuck wanted to be our SmartPipe. The SmartPipe is the ideal way to drain water in a dirt crawl space without clogging or drain failure. Its custom design includes holes on the top and front to accept water from the soil and surface of your crawl space. A special wall flange collects water from the crawl space walls and the footing/wall joint. Next, Chuck needed a means of disposal for unwanted water, so he recommended our TripleSafe sump pump. This is the most reliable sump pump in our lineup, providing three levels of protection for your basement and your peace of mind. For normal functioning, the TripleSafe has a powerful, cast-iron Zoeller ⅓ horsepower sump pump set at the lowest level. For heavy volumes of water or in case of primary pump failure, TripleSafe boasts a second, more powerful Zoeller ½ hp pump set a bit higher in the liner will take over. Finally, Chuck wanted to address the energy inefficiency in the crawl space, by using our TerraBlock crawl space floor insulation system. This product is a durable, long-lasting insulation product designed specifically for crawl space floors to help combat these issues. Able to be installed on uneven floors, this product includes a white vapor barrier that will keep moisture from making its way up through dirt, stone, or concrete crawl space floors.
