Bowing Walls Stabilized in Taunton, MN
Challenge
Kevin A. in Taunton, MN realized that all 4 of his basement walls were cracked and bowing inward. His foundation had been damaged because excessive moisture around his home had caused the soil to expand. The expansion of the soil was putting constant inward force on the walls and they were no longer able to withstand the pressure, which caused the foundation walls to crack and bow. If he left his foundation problem unattended to, his walls could eventually collapse, which would force him to replace the entire foundation.
Solution
American Waterworks was able to solve his foundation problem by installing 22 wall anchors along the 4 basement walls. We drilled small holes through the brick walls into the soil surrounding the home. Then, we dug out small holes in their yard that lined up with the holes drilled in the brick wall. Long metal rods were inserted through the brick wall to the hole in the soil outside of the home. We installed anchor plates on each end of the metal rod and tightened them to secure and stabilize the wall. The wall anchors permanently restored the foundation of the home.
