Settling Foundation Raised and Supported by Piers in Rochester, MN
Challenge
Mary and Steven in Rochester, MN have a home that was built in 1987. In 1999 they chose to add an attached garage. Over the last 4 years, they noticed their foundation settling because of cracks in the block wall and a cracked wood frame in their garage. They had numerous contractors inspect their foundation problem, but no one had a solution. After further research, they discovered American Waterworks and they were thrilled to see that we have been restoring foundations for almost 3 decades. They contacted us and received a free estimate from Mike Radosevich, one of our Design Specialists.
Solution
Mike assured them that we could lift and support their foundation by installing 9 helical piers. They were happy to hear this, so they scheduled the installation. Our crew excavated the soil around the home on the side where the foundation had started settling. They placed the bracket of the piers underneath the foundation and then installed the piers with helical plates. These plates help to pull the pier into the soil during installation and provide anchoring strength as the weight of the foundation or structural element is transferred to the pier. Helical piers not only support the weight of the home, but they provide the best opportunity to lift a home back to its original position. Mary and Steve were elated with the results and contacted us after the installation to let us know how amazed they were, and how much they appreciated our courteous crew. They are happy they chose to invest in the stability of their home, and we are glad we have restored their peace of mind!
