Helical Piers Stabilize Settling Foundation in Harpers Ferry, IA

Challenge

Jeff P. was the owner of a family cabin in Harpers Ferry, IA. He noticed some cracking in the foundation that had only gotten worse over time. He wanted to keep the cabin in the family and was looking for a permanent solution. He contacted American Waterworks after seeing one of our advertisements in the local newspaper, and we sent one of our Design Specialists to evaluate the situation. After his inspection, he was able to recommend our Helical Pier Foundation System and the installation of 14 helical piers around the settling foundation. Jeff was impressed with our products and moved forward with the installation.

Solution

Our Foreman, Hugo Sanchez, and his production team began the foundation repair by removing concrete and soil around the home where the foundation started settling and shifting. Once they reached the proper depth, heavy duty steel brackets were positioned below and against the foundation footings. Then, they installed the piers with helical plates. These plates help to pull the pier into the competent, supporting soil and provide anchoring strength as the weight of the foundation is transferred to the pier. Helical piers not only support the weight of the home, but they provide the best opportunity to lift a home back to its original position. Jeff’s peace of mind has been restored, knowing the foundation is permanently supported!
