Failing Wall Saved in Andover, MN
Challenge
A homeowner from Andover, MN, was down in her basement one day when she noticed a large crack running down her foundation wall. She was immediately worried about what this could mean for her home and decided to find a professional to address the situation. She had no idea who handled MN foundation repair, but one day she found herself at the Minneapolis Home + Garden show, where she met our Design Specialist, Daniel R. She and Daniel got to chatting about the crack on her wall, and ended up setting up a time for Daniel to come out to her home and see the crack for himself.
Solution
On the day of the appointment, Daniel arrived at the home and got right into the basement to assess the situation. When he finished, he was ready to make his recommendations for the solution. Daniel began by informing the homeowner that foundation walls are designed to withstand loads from the top, not the side. When the pressure pushing on the side of the wall becomes too much for the wall to withstand, it's common for homeowners to see cracking, bowing, sliding in at the bottom, and/or tilting inward at the top. For this reason, Daniel recommended our GeoLock wall anchors. Daniel explained that our GeoLock anchors counteract the pressure being put on the wall by anchoring the wall to the undisturbed soil beyond the foundation. Each anchor is connected by a steel rod to a wall plate that provides clamping pressure against the inside of the foundation wall. This method also offers the potential to straighten the wall back to its original position. Daniel finished by saying that these anchors can be tightened over time to provide further stability down the road. The homeowner liked Daniel's approach and was thrilled to have a system that could move with the home through its next stages, and decided to sign on the spot.
The day of the installation eventually rolled around. Our team, led by their Foreman, Jose C, was able to flawlessly install 5 of our GeoLock anchors throughout the basement of the home. Now, our customer can breathe a bit easier knowing that her foundation worries have been handled.
