A homeowner from River Falls, WI, had been chatting with his neighbor when he learned that the neighbor had his home tested for radon gas. The homeowner didn't know much about radon but figured he should have his home tested for radon just to be on the safe side. He took to the internet to search for 'radon mitigation company near me', and quickly found our website. He was impressed with our radon mitigation system pictures and decided to sign up for his FREE estimate. Several weeks later, Gary S, one of our Design Specialist, was scheduled to stop at the home.
When Gary arrived, he got right to work placing a continuous radon monitoring test in the lowest level of the home. The goal of this test is to gauge radon levels over a 48 hour timespan, giving Gary a good idea of the average radon levels within the home at any given time. When Gary finished, he met with the homeowner to discuss next steps. Gary explained that radon is a colorless, odorless, and tasteless radioactive gas that is emitted from the breakdown of soil surrounding the home. He went on to say that if the levels came back over 4 pCi/L, he would strongly recommend having a radon mitigation system installed. A typical radon mitigation system consists of a large-diameter plastic pipe that connects the air beneath your foundation to the outdoors. An in-line fan sucks radon-rich air from beneath your foundation and expels this hazardous air to the exterior. Instead of entering your basement or other living space area through numerous gaps and cracks in the foundation, radon gas is extracted from beneath your foundation before it can permeate into interior space. When installed by an experienced radon mitigation specialist, a radon abatement system will lower the concentration of radon gas in your interior air to the minimal levels recommended by the EPA and other health and safety agencies. The homeowner agreed with Gary's recommendation but decided to wait for the radon levels to return before making a choice. A few days later, the results returned with much higher than normal levels. So the homeowner called Gary and the two worked together to find a good day for the system to be installed.
On the day of the project, our Foreman, Geno M, and his team were able to install the system with no complications. Now, our homeowner can be confident that the air he and his family were breathing was as clean as possible!
