A homeowner from Racine, MN, was reading a local newspaper one day when he stumbled across a piece on the dangers of radon gas. He had read that radon gas is odorless, colorless, and tasteless, making it completely undetectable without the proper testing. Not wanting his family to unknowingly breathe in the hazardous gas, he decided to find a radon specialist to test his home. When he found our website, he signed up for his FREE estimate, and several weeks later, our Design Specialist, Romeo V, was headed out to the home.
When Romeo arrived, he began his inspection by placing a charcoal radon test on the lowest level of the home. The purpose of this test is to gauge the levels of radon within the home over a period of time. Romeo then carried on with the inspection. When he completed, he met with the homeowner. He informed the homeowner that they were right to have their home tested as radon gas is deadly. He explained that the Environmental Protection Agency recommends mitigating a home if levels are higher than 4 pCi/L. Romeo informed the homeowner that, should the levels return higher, he would strongly urge the homeowner to consider a radon mitigation system. A typical radon mitigation system consists of a large-diameter plastic pipe that connects the air beneath your foundation to the outdoors. An in-line fan sucks radon-rich air from beneath your foundation and expels this hazardous air to the exterior. Instead of entering your basement or other living space area through numerous gaps and cracks in the foundation, radon gas is extracted from beneath your foundation before it can permeate into interior space. It works to lower the concentration of radon gas in the interior of the home to minimal levels recommended by the EPA and other health and safety agencies. The homeowner was thrilled with the solution but decided to wait until the results from the test returned. A week later, the results returned higher than the recommended level. The homeowner called Romeo and the two figured out the best day for the system to be installed.
On the day of the project, our Foreman, Dakota M, and his team were able to swiftly install the system. Now, our customer has renewed faith in the air circulating within his home!
