High Levels of Radon Mitigated in Sanborn, MN
Challenge
Kayla L. in Sanborn, MN had her home tested for radon after learning about the health implications radon gas can cause. Unfortunately, Kayla’s tests results came back high at 15.1 pCi/L. The EPA recommends mitigation if the radon levels of a home are at or above 4 pCi/L, so Kayla wanted to have this problem taken care of as soon as possible. She contacted American Waterworks to receive a free estimate.
Solution
Our Design Specialist, Shane Nephew, developed a radon mitigation system design that was unique to Kayla’s home. Our production crew started the installation by creating a suction point through the sump pump for the PVC pipe. Then, they ran the piping up the basement wall, through the wall to outside of the home, and up to the roof. We installed a fan in the piping on the outside of the home to ensure the radon gas is pushed out and away from the home. The installation only took a few hours to complete, and now Kayla’s peace of mind has been restored. She has dramatically reduced her risk of getting lung cancer by installing our radon mitigation system.
