Dangerous Levels of Radon Mitigated in Wabasso, MN
Challenge
Charles R. in Wabasso, MN had not yet had his home tested for radon, and he knew how dangerous the effects of radon gas can be, so he contacted American Waterworks. We gave him a charcoal test to get a reading of the radon in his home, and the results showed that he was unfortunately living with dangerous levels of radon. The EPA recommends that homeowners mitigate if the results are at or above 4 pCi/L. Since Charles’ test was above 4 pCi/L, he decided to have our mitigation system installed.
Solution
Our Foreman, Dakota M., created a suction point through the concrete floor in the basement of the home. He inserted a PVC pipe into the suction point, so the radon has a path to travel. He ran the PVC piping up the basement wall, out of the home, and up through the roof. There is a fan installed near the top of the PVC pipe to ensure that the gas is pushed out and away from the home. The installation process was quick and painless, only taking half a day to complete. Charles is glad he took the necessary measures to protect himself and his family from radon gas.
