Radon Mitigation System Installed in Avon, MN
Challenge
Radon is a naturally occurring, odorless gas that has become the second leading cause of lung cancer. Since we cannot smell, taste, see, touch, or hear radon, it is easily unnoticed. When this happens, everyone in the home is at risk of getting lung cancer. With that said, radon causes 15% of the world's lung cancer cases and kills 20,000 people a year.
Roger C. of Avon, MN needed to get his home tested for radon. He had previous work done by American Waterworks and had a great experience with them, so he called to schedule a FREE Estimate to get his home tested. Our Design Specialist, Michel Ramirez, went to his home and set up a CRM (Continuous Radon Monitor), a device made to find radon levels within 48 hours. He answered all of Roger's questions and educated him on the causes and risks of radon. Michel returned after 2 days and the results came back above 4 pCi/L (picocuries per liter), which is the action level for any indoor environment, so Roger decided to move forward with the project and get a mitigation system installed in his home.
Solution
Our radon Foreman, Geno Mclain, and his crew member started the installation process by introducing themselves to Rick and making sure all of his questions were answered. After a thorough introduction, our team began the process and installed a PVC pipe from the suction point of the sump pump. The reason for this is to suck everything out from underground since that is where radon is produced. They cut open a small hole through the ceiling, and through to the outside of the home, where our crew installed the mitigation system and fan for proper ventilation. The radon gas is then vented out and away from the home through the remaining PVC piping which safely brings radon levels down in the home. Roger saw crazy results and his radon levels went down drastically. He was grateful we were able to help and had a great experience from appointment to installation!
