Radon Mitigation System Installed in Remer, MN
Challenge
Radon is a naturally-occurring radioactive gas that has become the second-leading cause of lung cancer. Radon comes from the natural breakdown of uranium in soil, rock, and water, and gets into the air that we breathe. It can be found all over the United States and can get into any type of building or home, and result in a high indoor radon level.
A homeowner in Remer, MN saw some of our projects on HomeAdvisor, so they called our office staff and scheduled a FREE Estimate to get their home tested for radon. Our Design Specialist went to their home, installed our CRM (Continuous Radon Monitor), in the crawl space of the home. Our CRM is designed to read radon levels in the home, and the test usually comes back with results within 48 hours. Two days later, the homeowner got his results back with a level of 4.9 pCi/L (picocuries per liter). According to the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), 4 pCi/L and above needs to be mitigated and the levels need to be reduced as soon as possible. The homeowner decided to move forward with the process and schedule an installation date for the project.
Solution
Our radon Foreman and his crew member began the process by introducing themselves to the homeowner and ensuring all of their questions were answered. After a thorough introduction, our team began the project by drilling a hole into the concrete floor of the crawl space, creating a suction point. The purpose of this is to create a path for the radon to be pulled out of the ground underneath the home. Next, our team connected PVC piping from the suction point throughout the entire crawl space, to the outside of the home where they installed our Radon Mitigation System. This system is the heart of the job. If it is not working properly, the pressure is not working, and the radon will not be able to escape the home. Next, our team installed PVC piping from the system up to the top of the outside of the house.
After the project, our Foreman gave a final walkthrough with the customer to make sure all of their questions were answered and gave them the test kit, which the homeowner uses to test their levels two days after the installation. The Foreman shows the homeowner how to go about doing this. The homeowner was satisfied with the work that was done and their peace of mind was restored!
