Dangerous Levels of Radon in Bismarck, ND
Challenge
As a gas, radon can enter any home through cracks, holes, or other openings. It comes from the breakdown of uranium, rock, or water and gets into the air that we breathe. Radon can be found all over the US and it can get into any type of structural building. Since we can't smell, taste, see, or feel radon, it goes easily unnoticed. When this happens, everyone in the building or home has the risk of getting lung cancer. With that being said, radon causes 15% of the world's lung cancer cases and kills 20,000 people per year.
A Bismarck, ND resident was curious about the radon levels in their home and wanted to make sure they were breathing healthy air. They got in contact with our office staff after finding us online and scheduled a Radon Testing with our Design Specialist. Our Design Specialist tested their home and the test results came back within two days. Their radon levels were high, so they scheduled a date to get our Radon Mitigation System installed by our production team.
Solution
Our Foreman and his production team began the project by walking around the home, examining the area, and ensuring the customer was comfortable with everything before moving forward with the installation. Next, our team formed a suction point in the concrete basement floor, which is the first step of the radon installation. This provides an opening to pull the radon gas out from below the ground. Next, our team connected PVC piping from the suction point, to the ceiling, across to the other side of the basement, and outside to the east side of the home. Outside of the home, our team installed our Radon Mitigation System. This system is the heart of the system, and if it isn't functioning properly, it defeats the overall purpose. From there, our Foreman provided a walk-through with the homeowner and answered any last-minute questions they had about the outcome of the project.
The homeowner was happy with the work that was done and their peace of mind was restored knowing they were breathing healthy air!
