Radon Mitigation in Bismarck, ND
Challenge
Radon is a naturally-existing gas that is the second cause of lung cancer. Since radon is odorless, tasteless, and invisible, it goes easily unnoticed, causing everyone in the home to be in danger. Lung cancer due to radon kills several people each year and is the reason for 15% of the world's lung cancer cases. Since radon is a gas, it can enter the home through cracks, divots, or other openings, which is why it is important to get your home tested for radon.
Doris F. of Bismarck, ND read about American Waterworks and our services on HomeAdvisor, and she saw that we install radon mitigation systems. She called our office and scheduled a FREE inspection with our Design Specialist, Richie, to map out the system and write up a quote. Richie went to her home, examined the basement, thought of a plan for where to install the system, and proposed it to Doris. Doris was confident in Richie's proposal and got all of her questions answered about the system, so she scheduled a date for our installation crew to come out and take care of it.
Solution
Our Foreman, Corey, and his production team began the project by introducing themselves to Doris and making sure all of her questions were answered before moving forward. After a thorough introduction, our team started the installation by forming a suction point near the sump pump in Doris's utility room. The purpose of this is to create an opening for the radon to get sucked out from beneath the ground. From there, our team connected PCV piping throughout the home, eventually leading to outside the house where our crew installed the mitigation system. The mitigation system is the heart of the radon installation. If it is not working properly, radon will not be able to escape from the home. Corey and his crew connected PVC piping from the mitigation system alongside the house siding. This allows the radon to escape the home and dissolve into the outdoor air. To complete the installation, our crew sealed the cracks in the concrete basement floor, which serves as extra protection and prevents radon from coming up from beneath the ground. Our radon mitigation systems only take one day to install, and Doris was satisfied with our service and installation!
