High Radon Levels Tackled in Rochester, MN
Challenge
A homeowner in Rochester, MN, came upon our blog post, which discusses the danger radon poses in a household. The homeowner learned that radon is a by-product of uranium, a naturally occurring radioactive element that can be found in soil. As soil decays, it releases radon and causes a high toxicity level in the air. Radon is difficult because we cannot see, taste, hear, smell, or touch it. This makes it nearly impossible to detect unless one has a test kit. After learning this information, the homeowner went to her local convenience store and bought a radon testing kit. After a couple of days, the results came back above 4 pCi/L, and the homeowner immediately contacted us to claim her FREE estimate.
Solution
Our of our Service Technicians arrived at the home on the scheduled date, and the homeowner informed him that she had already tested the radon levels of her home and would like our radon mitigation system installed. Our Service Technician understood and came up with a design and explained to the homeowner that our radon mitigation system would be installed at the lowest level of the home. A PVC pipe will be placed beneath the foundation to suction out the radon-rich air and vent it outdoors. The homeowner agreed, and his design was then sent to our Foreman, Dakota M.
Dakota and his crew arrived at the home in about a week to carry out the installation. He drilled a hole at the lowest level of the home and attached the PVC pipe. The pipes then connect to outside of the home. These are installed so that the mitigation system can vent the radon gas out before it can get inside the home. Once they finished the installation, they cleaned up their equipment and left the home.
