A homeowner from Halstad, MN, was worried about her crawl space. Over the years, her and her family's allergies had worsened, leading her to believe there were airborne allergens trapped in her home. She suspected the home's crawl space was to blame, so she began to look for crawl space repair near Halstad, MN, and quickly found American Waterworks. She signed up for her FREE estimate, and several weeks later, our Design Specialist, Ian S, was out at the home. When Ian arrived, he wasted no time getting down into the crawl space. When he was finished, he met up with the homeowner to go over his findings and recommendations.

Ian began by saying that the crawl space needed some serious attention, so he recommended several of our products to fix the moisture issue. First, Ian recommended our CleanSpace and drainage matting combo, explaining that the CleanSpace is a 100% waterproof tarp-like material that gets installed directly on the crawl space walls, functioning to collect any moisture entering through the foundation downward and keeping it out of the space. The drainage matting is laid down on the floor of the space before the CleanSpace is applied, giving the water collected by the CleanSpace a channel to flow freely to a drain or sump system. Next, Ian informed the homeowner that the water needed a means of escaping the space, which is where our SuperSump Plus would come into play. This effective yet economical sump pump is engineered for your peace of mind, making it the perfect choice to rid the crawl space of unwanted water. Next, Ian stated that he believed the crawl space to be energy inefficient, meaning that the space was making it harder to regulate the temperature in the home, as both cold and hot air were finding their way in and out of the crawl space due to tiny cracks and holes. Ian wanted to fix this problem with our Foamax Wall Panels. Foamax is a polyisocyanurate foam insulation panel with a white foil finish on the front and a foil vapor barrier on the back. The wall insulation panel offers several benefits, such as high insulation value, creating a warmer space, and brightening the basement, and can be left exposed, meaning the basement or crawl space can remain unfinished. Lastly, Ian informed the homeowner that even spaces with the most comprehensive waterproofing systems can still develop moisture and mold problems and can even feel damp. This is due to concrete walls and floors constantly absorbing moisture from the soil, releasing it into the air of the basement. Ian's final recommendation is that our AprilAire dehumidifier creates healthy air and can reduce the number of viable viruses in the air to less than 1% in two days when set to 50% relative humidity. The homeowner was thankful that Ian was forthcoming about all of the issues in the space and decided to address them all.

On the day of the project, our Foreman, Kingsley C, and his team effortlessly installed 1,236 sqft of CleanSpace, 1,048 sqft of drainage matting, 266 sqft of Foamax, 1 super sump pump, and 1 AprilAire dehumidifier. Now our customer can put her crawl space concerns in the past!

Leaky Basement Gets Waterproofed in Halstad, MN

Erin, from Halstad, MN was facing some issues with her basement. She had noticed that there was a great deal of moisture finding it's way into her space. She had also started to notice that one of the walls on the south side of the basement had begun to show signs of cracking, a clear indicator of wall failure. Erin was afraid that if she left the issue unresolved, she would run the risk of compromising the structural integrity of her home and doing serious water damage in the process. She did some research about businesses in the area offering the services she needed. When she decided to give us a call we set her up with our FREE estimate. A few weeks later our Design Specialist, Ian headed out to the property to complete his walkthrough and see what could be done about the issue. Once he completed his walkthrough he was ready to make his recommendations. First, he wanted to use our CleanSpace to address any water entering the space through cracks or holes in the foundation. Ian explained to Erin that our CleanSpace is a 100% waterproof plastic vapor barrier that works to redirect water down the tarp-like barrier and into Ian's second recommendation, our WaterGuard. Ian went on to say that our WaterGuard pairs well with the CleanSpace as it collects the water draining down the tarp and redirects it to the appropriate disposal site. Finally, Ian wanted to address the failing walls by using our PowerBrace system. He informed Erin that the PowerBrace system is meant to stabilize the wall in its current position without making any further adjustments. He went on to say that over time, our PowerBrace system can be tightened to make bowing or tilting walls straighter and more vertical. Erin agreed with his recommendations. Our Production crew, led by our Foreman Jeromy, installed 2 of our PowerBraces on the problem wall, 14 ft of our WaterGuard, and another 14ft of our CleanSpace around the basement. When the work was complete, Erin was happy to know she no longer needed to worry about her basement causing her any more headaches!
