Job Stories From Houston County, MN
Radon Mitigation in Caledonia, MN

Michelle M. in Calendonia, MN had heard about the dangers of radon and decided she needed to get her home tested. American Waterworks tested her home and the results showed that her home did have high levels of radon. Our Design Specialist, Dustin Loftus, explained the risks of living with high levels of radon and he walked her through the radon mitigation process. Michelle decided that it would be best to protect her and her family's health, so she chose to have us install our radon mitigation system.

The installation was a quick and painless process that was completed in just a few hours. The radon that was seeping into Michelle's home is now being vented to the outside of her house through a PVC pipe. The pipe is attached to a fan to ensure that the radon gas is vented out and away from her home. Michelle can have peace of mind knowing that her home is now protected from radon.

Sump Pump Failure in Houston, MN

Lori F. in Houston, MN found that her sump pump had failed during a heavy rainfall. Her sump pump was not able to keep up with the amount of water that was draining into it, so water began to pool around the sump pump. She knew it was time to have her sump pump replaced. A friend referred her to American Waterworks, so she contacted us and we set up an appointment for one of our Certified Design Specialists to provide a free onsite estimate.

After having the sump pump options thoroughly explained to her by our Design Specialist, she chose to have the TripleSafe sump pump installed. The TripleSafe sump pump system is our most reliable sump pump because it offers three layers of protection, including a battery backup pump that will work even when the power is out. Lori's basement is now protected, and she no longer has to worry about her sump pump failing.

High Radon Gas Levels in La Crescent

According to the World Health Organization, radon causes 15% of the world's lung cancer cases and kills 20,000 people each year. David B. in La Crescent, MN learned about the dangers of radon, so he chose to have his home tested by American Waterworks. The test results showed a radon level of 5.5 pCi/L. The EPA recommends that homeowners take action when radon levels are at 4pCi/L or higher, so American Waterworks took the time to walk David through the radon mitigation installation process and answer any of his questions. David did not want to compromise his family's health any longer, so he chose to have our radon mitigation system installed.

Our crew drilled a hole through the floor in the basement to insert a PVC pipe and create a suction point for the radon gas. Then the gas is vented through the pipe and out of the home. A fan is also installed at the top of the PVC pipe where the gas is vented out to ensure that the gas is pushed away from the home. After the radon mitigation system was installed, we tested his radon levels again and the results came back as 0.9pCi/L. David now has peace of mind knowing that he took the necessary steps to protect his family from this dangerous gas.

TripleSafe Sump Pump System Keeps Basement Dry in Hokah, MN

Linda V. of Hokah, MN had water leaking in her basement underneath her staircase and wasn’t sure how to go about the issue. She got ahold of American Waterworks to see what we could do for her. We sent out our Design Specialist, Mac Cole, for a Free Estimate to inspect the issue. After all of Linda’s questions were answered and she felt comfortable, she decided to follow through with the project.

Our foreman, Aaron Engen, and his production crew went out to her house and started the installation process. First, they installed our TripleSafe sump pump system which is the most reliable sump pump we have and provides three levels of protection. From the sump pump, they broke up the concrete and made a trench. In the trench, they installed an inside discharge line of 60 linear feet that led to the LawnSpace outlet outside the house. With the help of the TripleSafe and discharge line, water can pump out of the house a lot more efficiently. Our crew finished the process by filling the open gaps with rock and replacing the concrete.

Basement Waterproofing in Eitzen, MN

Having a wet or damp basement can cause more than just a headache. Problems like these can cause bigger problems like mildew, rot, structural damage, mold, and health problems. Some symptoms to look out for are a wet basement, damp walls, standing water, musty smells, condensation, sump pump problems, and leaky basement windows.

Lambert and Joyce S. of Eitzen, MN had water leaking into his basement where the wall and floor meet, and they were afraid that it was going to cause water damage. One of their friends worked with American Waterworks and they had great customer service so they recommended our company. Lambert and Joyce called our office line and set up a FREE estimate with our Design Specialist team. Our Design Specialist went to their home, inspected their basement water problem, and determined a solution that worked for them and their needs. Lambert and Joyce were confident in our proposal, so they followed through with the project.

Our Foreman and his production team began the project by jackhammering out the concrete floor perimeter, forming a trench. In the trench, our crew installed our WaterGuard Drainage System, which is an interior drainage system designed to prevent water and mud clogs, collect water seepage from basement walls, and it has easily accessible service ports when time for annual maintenance. It also works hand in hand with the sump pump in order to efficiently pump water out of the home. To complete the project, our team filled the open gaps with river rock and applied new concrete over them to ensure the basement was neat, clean, and dry!

We provide services in basement waterproofing, crawl space repair/encapsulation, foundation repair, radon testing/mitigation, and concrete repair/lifting. Call us today or click HERE to request and schedule your FREE estimate!

PolyLevel Lift + Level in Caledonia, MN

Carolyn, from Caledonia, ND noticed that her driveway and sidewalk were showing signs of cracking and sinking. She was afraid that if it kept worsening, these issues could lead to safety hazards and problems with the house itself. By contacting us and requesting a FREE estimate, we set her up with our Design Specialist team member for a free, no-obligation estimate.

Brian headed to the property and completed his walkthrough, recommending that our PolyLevel lift and leveling solution and our NexusPro sealant would get the job done. He explained that any concrete surface's stability depends on the soil beneath it. The weight of concrete and what it supports, combined with natural soil erosion, can lead to sunken and uneven concrete surfaces. PolyLevel is an expanding polyurethane foam that is injected beneath the concrete to fill the gaps caused by soil erosion and raise and stabilize the concrete surface. NexusPro sealant is a silicone-based sealant for joints and cracks specially formulated to provide long-lasting flexibility and to stand up to harsh weather conditions.

Our Foreman, Troy, and his crew began implementing these services by drilling holes strategically into the concrete. They then injected PolyLevel while consistently checking to ensure the slab was adjusting properly. Finally, NexusPro was applied, penetrating the concrete and permanently bonding with it, protecting it from water damage and making stains easier to remove

Carolyn was very grateful to know that she no longer had to worry about the cracks and sinking in her concrete!

Sidewalk Leveling in Caledonia, MN

A homeowner in Caledonia, MN, was reminded it was about time to schedule their annual maintenance appointment with American Waterworks. A couple of years ago, the homeowner had the WaterGuard system installed in their home, so it was about time to have it inspected. The homeowner called our Appointment Center and set up their annual maintenance appointment with Edgar, one of our Service Technicians. After the appointment was set, Edgar traveled to the home to inspect the WaterGuard's status. Edgar tested all the products and ensured it was working properly. Since Edgar was there, the homeowner asked if he could take a look at their sunken concrete. Edgar agreed and he performed an estimate of the home's concert. Following his inspection, Edgar recommended lifting and leveling the concrete to bring it back to its original level. The homeowner agreed so the plans were sent to the office for approval. Once they were approved, they were directed to our Foreman, Ryan, and his crew. Ryan and his team traveled to the home to begin the concrete lifting and leveling process. First, the crew inserted the PolyLevel underneath the sinking concrete. The PolyLevel is a polyurethane foam injection solution that restores the appearance and safety of the concrete. The crew started by strategically drilling small holes throughout the slab. Then, the crew inserts ports into those small holes. Next, the polyurethane foam is injected beneath the concrete to fill voids and raise the slabs. Finally, the holes and control joints are sealed. Once the PolyLevel injection was finished, the crew shifted their focus to filling the cracks and replacing the joints. The crew utilized NexusPro Sealant, a silicone-based sealant for joints and cracks formulated to provide long-lasting flexibility and withstand harsh weather conditions. The crew begins by drilling, smoothing, and preparing the non-absorbent backer rod filler. Then, the NexusPro sealant is inserted in the prepared crack or control joint. Finally, the cracks are detailed with a thin layer of native sand, giving the concrete a uniform, finished appearance. The crew completed the lifting and leveling process, so they cleaned up their materials and left the home. The homeowner was impressed with our crew's work ethic and process. Cracked Concrete Repairs in Brownsville, MN

A homeowner in Brownsville, MN was eager to fix some areas of her backyard to make it more visually pleasing for when she or any of her guests were using the space. The first thing she wanted to focus on was finding a solution for the concrete patio. The concrete slabs that made up the patio were sunken inward so much that it was frustrating to even set the patio furniture on it because of how it tilted. She also was wanting to repair the large cracks that had formed throughout the surface. Going online to find a solution, she searched for "concrete lifting services near me" and found the American Waterworks company website. She looked through our services and different pages including the before and after concrete repairs photos. Thinking this was the best company to move forward with, she signed up for a FREE estimate with one of our Design Specialists. We received her request and sent over Mac Cole to analyze the area and prepare his recommendations. Mac explained that to eliminate the problems the homeowner was having and prevent any more cracks from forming, our PolyLevel solution and NexusPro sealant would be the perfect way to fix it. The homeowner agreed to the installations and was eager to see how the final patio would look. Our Foreman, Troy Johnson, and his crew arrived at the site and began the project by drilling small holes throughout the concrete patio. They inserted ports through the holes to reach the empty space below the surface and injected the PolyLevel inside until the slabs were lifted back up. They filled in the holes with NexusPro and also used it to fill in the cracks. Finally, a layer of native sand was sprinkled on top of the sealant for a smooth finished look to the space. The homeowner was happy with the results and grateful for our team's hard work.

She determined the problem had gotten too bad to ignore, so she took action and went online to find a solution. The homeowner searched "concrete repair mn" and a variety of websites with different services showed up. The American Waterworks company website stood out to her because of our powerful product, PolyLevel, and our FREE no-obligation estimates. She signed up for her own and was later greeted by Design Specialist Reese Rinken. Reese determined that the concrete had sunk because of soil settling over time from the heavy weight of the cars that sat on it. He explained that our PolyLevel product would be the best solution to lift the concrete because the expanding properties of the polyurethane allow for an accurate leveling of the slabs. The homeowner was glad to hear this and she agreed to move forward with the installations. One of our Foremen, Reese Rinken, and his crew went to the site and began the project by drilling small pencil-sized holes in the driveway. Then, they inserted ports inside the holes and injected the PolyLevel to fill in the empty space below. The crew filled each hole with NexusPro as well as sealed the joints in between slabs for a smooth final look, which the homeowner was very happy with.

Once he completed his walkthrough, he informed the business owner that American Waterworks could certainly fix the issue with the help of our PolyLevel lifting and leveling solution. High Radon Levels Mitigated in Caledonia, MN

A homeowner from Caledonia, MN, had heard from a friend about the dangers that radon gas poses to a household. She headed straight to her local home improvement store for an at-home test. After conducting the test in her space, she was alarmed when her results returned at 9.3 pCi/L. Not wanting to sacrifice her household's health, she searched for a radon mitigation Minnesota. After much searching, she found our website. She looked through all of our radon mitigation projects in her area and was impressed. She signed up for her FREE estimate, and several weeks later, one of our Design Specialists, Ryan K, was headed out to the home.

Knowing the home already had high radon levels,  Ryan began his inspection by finding the best place to put a radon mitigation system. When he finished his walkthrough, he met with the homeowner and informed her that he would recommend installing a radon mitigation system in the home to help bring the levels down. Ryan explained that a typical radon mitigation system consists of a large-diameter plastic pipe that connects the air beneath your foundation to the outdoors. An in-line fan sucks radon-rich air beneath your foundation and expels this hazardous air to the exterior. Instead of entering your basement or other living space through numerous gaps and cracks in the foundation, radon gas is extracted from beneath your foundation before it can permeate into interior space. When installed by an experienced radon mitigation specialist, a radon abatement system will lower the concentration of radon gas in your interior air to the minimal levels recommended by the EPA and other health and safety agencies. When Ryan was done with his presentation, he assured the homeowner that while the levels were high, they had done the right thing by contacting a radon mitigation specialist. The homeowner was relieved to hear that their radon issue could be solved and signed on the spot.

On the day of the installation, our Foreman, Dakota, and his team were able to place the radon mitigation system in the home. Now, our customer can breathe much easier knowing she can fully trust the air circulating in her home.
