Job Stories From Steele County, MN
Severely Cracked Foundation Wall Stabilized in Medford, MN

Matt B. had two large stair-step like cracks on one of his foundation walls in his basement. He was worried about the underlying problems this could be causing on his home and he wanted a professional to look at it, so he called American Waterworks. Our Design Specialist, Rick Weber, went to his home to inspect his foundation and design a solution. Matt was pleased with the thorough plan that Rick developed, so he decided to move forward with the installation.

Our production team installed three wall anchors on the wall with the large cracks. They dug three holes outside of the home that lined up with where the anchors would be installed. Then, they drilled small holes into the wall and inserted long metal rods. They placed anchor plates of each end of the rods and tightened them. Once the anchors were completely tightened, Matt could see a dramatic improvement in the stability of the wall. Our foundation repair systems are guaranteed for a lifetime, so Matt is confident that he chose the right long-term solution for his home.

Settling Concrete Driveway Lifted in Blooming Prairie, MN

Daryl N. in Blooming Prairie, MN noticed that the concrete that wrapped around the side of his garage was settling. It had pulled away from the wall and had sunk almost two inches from its original position. While researching concrete repair contractors, he found the American Waterworks website and was interested in learning more about our PolyLevel concrete repair solution. We sent one of our Design Specialists, Rick Weber, to his home to provide him with a FREE estimate. Rick designed a solution and assured Daryl that we could repair his concrete in a matter of hours. Daryl was pleased to her this, so he scheduled the repair.

Our concrete repair experts drilled small holes into the concrete slabs where they needed to be raised. This process only took a couple of hours, and Daryl was able enjoy his concrete almost immediately because the foam cures so quickly. He was happy he chose American Waterworks to restore his concrete and he’s glad he can now enjoy his walkway for years to come!

Water Damaged Floor Restored in Owatonna, MN

In Owatonna, MN a homeowner began looking for services in the surrounding area that could help her with water damage. She had recently been enjoying her basement space when she noticed a significant pool of water lining the floor of one of the walls. She was concerned about the issue growing worse, even over the next few days, and causing more damage to her basement. She found our number on the American Waterworks website and scheduled her FREE estimate appointment. A few weeks later our Design Specialist, Adam Voigt, arrived at the home to carry out the inspection. He carefully considered the area and the possible causes of such water damage. After it was completed, Adam informed the homeowner of his recommendations as to how American Waterworks could help her out. He informed her of our WaterGuard system, a key part of a complete basement waterproofing system, and helps to provide a permanent solution for flooding. The homeowner was happy to have a solution to eliminate the issue and agreed to the plans. On the day of the WaterGuard installation, our Foreman, Juan Pena, and his crew arrived at the site to begin the installation process. They started by removing the flooring right at the base of the problem wall and leading to the sump pump for the water to be sent away safely. Next, they laid the drainage stone and placed the WaterGuard system and attached it to the sump. Finally, they covered the drain in a smooth layer of concrete to prevent any movement of the drain system. The result was a clean floor and a happy homeowner who didn't have to worry about water intrusion anymore.

Concrete Apron Concerns in Blooming Prairie, MN

A homeowner in Blooming Prairie, MN was looking to make some changes to her front yard area to increase the curb appeal. Her main area of concern was the concrete apron outside of her garage. Over the years it had sunk into the ground, creating a large bump that was both frustrating to drive over every day and a tripping hazard. She wanted to make a change and eliminate the problem all together but wasn't sure what the next best step was. Going online to see what companies specialized in concrete replacement and repairs, she ended up picking American Waterworks because of our FREE estimate appointments. We received her request and sent over one of our expert Design Specialists, Dylan Woitas, to the home. Dylan inspected the concrete apron and prepared his recommendations. He informed the homeowner that concrete replacement wasn't necessary and instead, installing our PolyLevel solution to lift the slabs back up, would be timelier and inexpensive. The homeowner was glad to hear this and agreed to the installation plans. One of our Foremen, Jordan Simonson, and his crew went out to the site and started the project by drilling small holes throughout the concrete. Then, they inserted ports through the holes until they reached below the surface into the empty space. Next, the crew injected our PolyLevel foam through the ports and filled in the space until the slabs were fully lifted. A week later, another Foreman, Reese Rinken, arrived to finish the job by filling the joints and cracks with NexusPro sealant. He also sprinkled some native sand on top to smooth out the entire surface. The homeowner was pleased with the work done by each of our team members and glad she had contacted us for her concrete repair needs.

Water-free Basement in Owatonna, MN

A homeowner in Owatonna, MN was downstairs in his basement when he noticed something off about the flooring in one of the rooms. Upon closer look he found a small puddle of water that had formed on the floor and some other signs of past water damage. He quickly became concerned about these problems and knew he needed to take action sooner than later. Going online in hopes of finding a company that specialized in basement waterproofing he looked up "wet basement repairs" in Minnesota and found the American Waterworks website. Initially he was interested in our FREE no-obligation estimates, but after more research also was impressed with our many positive past customer reviews about our products and services. He signed up for his own estimate and was later greeted by one of our Design Specialists, Adam Voigt. Adam inspected the basement space and knew just what was needed for repairs. He developed a detailed plan for installations and after the homeowner agreed to them, they were sent over for approval. Our Foreman, Arturo Mares, and his crew were given the plans soon after and went to the site to carry out the installations. They began the project by jackhammering channels along the perimeter of the water-damaged room and filling them with drainage stone. Then, they placed the WaterGuard basement drain system on top and filled more clean stone on top. A feed line was then connected from the new drains to the existing sump pump. Finally, the crew poured and smoothed some concrete on top of the jackhammered areas for protection and a clean look to the space. The homeowner was very pleased with how the project turned out and felt good knowing water wouldn't be able to enter the space again.

High Radon Levels Get Mitigated in Medford, MN

A homeowner from Medford, MN, was chatting with a neighbor one day when he learned that they had a radon mitigation system installed by American Waterworks a few days prior. Over the next few weeks, the homeowner grew increasingly worried about whether or not the air circulating in his home was safe or not, so he decided to test his home for radon. He bought a home test from a local home improvement store, and when the results came back, he was shocked at how high they were. He didn't want any harm to come to his family, so he decided to look into radon mitigation MN, and on the recommendation of his neighbor, decided to sign up for one of our FREE estimates. Several weeks later, our Design Specialist, Romeo, headed out to the home to see what could be done.

Romeo did a thorough inspection of the home and focused on the ideal spot to place a mitigation system, should the customer decide to go with American Waterworks. Romeo then met with the homeowner to discuss the next steps of the process. He began by saying that the homeowner was right to contact us. He then said that due to the high radon levels, he was recommending the homeowner install a mitigation system. When installed by an experienced radon mitigation specialist, a radon abatement system will lower the concentration of radon gas in your interior air to the minimal levels recommended by the EPA and other health and safety agencies. A typical radon mitigation system consists of a large-diameter plastic pipe that connects the air beneath your foundation to the outdoors. An in-line fan sucks radon-rich air from beneath your foundation and expels this hazardous air to the exterior. Instead of entering your basement or other living space area through numerous gaps and cracks in the foundation, radon gas is extracted from beneath your foundation before it can permeate into interior space. The homeowner was thrilled to hear that our solution would protect his family, so he agreed and scheduled the job for several weeks later.

On the day of the installation, Dakota, one of our Radon Foremen, and his team quickly and seamlessly installed the radon mitigation system in the attic of the home. Now our customer can have faith that the air circulating in his home is as safe as can be!

Damp Basement Addressed in Owatonna, MN

A homeowner from Owatonna, MN, had been dealing with a water intrusion issue in his basement for a while now. He wasn't sure how to go about fixing the problem, so it continued to grow. One day, he found himself at a local county fair, where he stopped by the American Waterworks booth. He got to chatting with our Design Specialist, Lance, and told him of the problems he was facing with his home. Lance mentioned that we offer FREE, no-obligation estimates into homeowner's concerns, so he decided to set one up on the spot.

On the day of the inspection, Lance arrived at the home to evaluate the problem. Once he finished his walkthrough, he met with the homeowner to discuss the next steps. Lance informed him that he recommended three of our products to fix the basement. First, Lance wanted to see our WaterGuard drainage system. Our WaterGuard is a unique French drain that gets installed below the floor slab but atop the footing of the foundation. This keeps the drain out of the "mud zone" where other other drains of its nature tend to clog. This drain works to catch water entering through holes and cracks in the floor, giving it a channel to flow to a disposal site. Because the basement lacked a proper water disposal site, Lance recommended the use of our SuperSump sump pump, an economical, yet effective solution for unwanted water. The SuperSump includes a powerful Zoeller ⅓ horsepower cast-iron sump pump, capable of pumping 2,220 gallons of water per hour at an 8-foot head out of your basement. Finally, Lance informed the homeowner that even basements with comprehensive systems can still develop moisture and mold problems and can even feel damp. Concrete walls and floors continually absorb moisture from the soil and release it into the air in your basement, and store-bought dehumidifiers simply aren't strong enough to solve the problem, which is why Lance recommended our AprilAire dehumidifierAdding an Aprilaire dehumidifier creates healthy air and can reduce the number of viable viruses in the air to less than 1% in two days when set to 50% RH. The homeowner agreed and work was scheduled for some time later.

On the day of the project, our Foreman, Kiko, led his team through the installation of 56ft of WaterGuard, 1 SuperSump, and 1 dehumidifier. Now, our homeowner can rest easy knowing his water intrusion issue has been handled!
