Settling Garage Foundation Wall in Lake City, MN

Ken W. in Lake City, MN had noticed that the crack on his garage wall had gotten far worse over time and he noticed the concrete of his garage started to sink and shift. He was concerned that there was a larger underlying problem, so he got in touch with American Waterworks to have a foundation repair expert inspect it. Our Design Specialist, Mac Cole discovered that the foundation on the side of his garage wall had started settling which was also causing the cement in his garage to become uneven. Mac developed a thorough plan invloving our push piers and PolyLevel injection.

Ken wanted to move forward with Mac's plan, so our crew started installing the piers. Three piers were put under the footings of where the foundation was settling. The piers allow the weight of the home to be shifted to a more competent soil. Then we injected our PolyLevel foam into numerous sections of the garage's concrete slabs to raise and level them. The total project only took two days to complete. Ken was glad he made it a priority to protect his home and stabilize his foundation.

Radon Mitigation in Kellogg, MN

Sarah S. in Kellogg, MN learned about the dangers of radon exposure, so she decided to have her home tested. She contacted American Waterworks to receive a free test. We sent a Design Specialists to her home to set up the test kit and walk her through a solution if her home tested high for radon. The EPA recommends mitigation if the test results are at 4 pCi/L or higher, which is still the equivalent of breathing in 10 cigarettes a day. Sarah’s home tested at 9 pCi/L, so she was eager to have a mitigation system installed as soon as possible.

Our crew started installing the mitigation system by inserting a PVC pipe through the sump pump to create a suction point. Then, they ran the PVC pipe up and out of the house, with a fan connected near to top of pipe to ensure that the radon gas would be pushed out and away from the home. The installation only took a few hours to complete, and now Sarah can rest easy knowing that the radon in her home has been dramatically reduced. The test following the installation showed that her home was now reporting levels of only 1.3 pCi/L. She was thrilled with the results and is relieved that she took the appropriate steps to protect her and her family’s health.

WaterGuard and SuperSump Pump Save Basement in Millville, MN

Kelly and David K. of Millville, MN had water leaking into their basement and was sick of having to keep up on the maintenance. She got ahold of our American Waterworks call representatives to set up a Free Estimate. We sent out our Design Specialist, Dustin Loftus, to examine the problem and come up with a solution. After a thorough inspection, they went ahead with the project and scheduled the installation date.

Our foreman, Arturo Mares, and his production crew began the installation by cutting out the concrete around the perimeter of their basement to make a waterway. In the waterway, our crew installed our WaterGuard Drainage System, which prevents water clogs and catches leakage from the walls. Next, our crew installed our SuperSump Pump M53, a sump pump designed to keep basements clean and dry for long periods of time, especially during heavy thunderstorms or flooding. Then, they installed a discharge line from the sump pump to our IceGuard System outside of the home. The IceGuard is a waterproofing system that provides an extra block of protection against basement flooding, especially when freezing temperatures are problematic. The discharge line ended at the LawnSpace Outlet; a pipe buried from the downspout that lets all the water waste out. To complete the installation, Arturo and his crew covered all of the open gaps in the basement with rock and replaced the broken-out concrete. Kelly and David were satisfied and content that American Waterworks was able to help them out at their time of need!

Jagged Driveway Leveled in Plainview, MN

A homeowner in Plainview, MN, noticed their driveway had significantly dropped from their garage floor. Instead of letting the issue worsen, the homeowner knew they needed professional assistance. The homeowner heard of a new way to lift sunken concrete, PolyLevel. After hearing about this product, the homeowner began looking into companies that offer this service. One of the first companies to show up was us, American Waterworks since they were so close to the Plainview. The homeowner knew we were a reputable company, so they called our Appointment Center and signed up for their FREE estimate. After the estimate was finalized, one of our Design Specialists, Nate, drove to the home to complete the inspection. Nate arrived and the homeowner showed him where the troublesome areas were. After Nate took a closer look, he determined that it was sinking due to settlement and needed to be lifted back to its original state. Nate proposed that the sidewalk be lifted and leveled with our PolyLevel solution. Additionally, Nate recommended taking out the old joints and replacing them with the NexusPro solution. The homeowner liked Nate's plan, so they decided to go ahead with his recommendations. Next, Nate passed along his plans to our office and then they were sent to our Foreman, Patrick. Once Patrick received the plans, he and his crew traveled to the home to start the PolyLevel installation. First, the crew inserted PolyLevel underneath the driveway and sidewalk. PolyLevel is a polyurethane foam injection solution that restores the appearance and safety of the concrete. The crew started by strategically drilling small holes throughout the slab. Then, the crew inserts ports into those small holes. Next, the polyurethane foam is injected beneath the concrete to fill voids and raise the slabs. Finally, the holes and control joints are sealed. Once the PolyLevel injection was finished, the crew shifted their focus to filling the cracks and replacing the joints. The crew utilized NexusPro Sealant, a silicone-based sealant for joints and cracks formulated to provide long-lasting flexibility and withstand harsh weather conditions. The crew begins by drilling, smoothing, and preparing the non-absorbent backer rod filler. Then, the NexusPro sealant is inserted in the prepared crack or control joint. Finally, the cracks are detailed with a thin layer of native sand, giving the concrete a uniform, finished appearance. After all the products were installed, the crew cleaned up their materials and left the home. The homeowner was pleased with the job well done by the crew. Cracking Wall Gets Addressed in Wabasha, MN

A homeowner in Wabasha, MN, got in touch with us when her friends recommended her to us. She had been dealing with a failing wall for a few years and was growing more uneasy about what that could spell for her home. She decided to take advantage of her FREE estimate and a few weeks later our Design Specialist, Michel, headed out to her home to see what we could do.

Once his inspection was completed, Michel met with the homeowner to go over his findings and make his recommendations. Michel informed her that her foundation was showing signs of settling, which is common in older homes. He assured her she made the right choice by contacting us. He went on to say that he believed the wall could be stabilized with the use of our helical piers, steel piers with a set of helical blades on the lower section. These piers are mechanically advanced into the soil using small construction equipment or hand equipment. As they are installed to appropriate depths and capacities, they prevent any future settlement issues. The homeowner agreed with Michel's recommendations; the project was scheduled to begin a few weeks later.

On the day of the installation, our Foreman, Luis, and his team began by excavating the soil away from the wall in question. Next, Luis used a piece of construction equipment to mechanically "screw" the piers into the soil. Once at proper depth and capacity, heavy-duty steel foundation brackets are positioned below and against the foundation footing. The weight of the home is then transferred through the helical piers to deep, competent soils. Then lifting the home back towards its original position is attempted. To finish the project, all the displaced soil is carefully replaced. Luis and his team installed 3 of our helical piers.

Now our homeowner can rest easily knowing her foundation issues have been conquered!

Water Intrusion Issue Gets Solved in Plainview, MN

A Plainview, MN, homeowner was struggling with an issue in his basement. Each time it rained, he observed tiny puddles forming in the corner of his room. He looked up basement waterproofing images online and became nervous about what the onslaught of water could do to this home. He decided to google "interior basement waterproofing near me", and eventually found our website. He decided to sign up for his FREE estimate, and several weeks later, our Design Specialist, Darin, headed out to the home.

Darin got right to work conducting his thorough inspection. When he finished, he met with the homeowner to go over their next steps and to form a game plan. Darin informed the homeowner that he was right to call, as water damage is usually easier and cheaper to catch early on versus further down the road after lots of damage has been done. Darin wanted to use two of our products to work together to keep the homeowner's basement dry. First, Darin recommended the installation of our WaterGuard, a unique French drain that gets installed below the floor but atop the footing of the foundation, keeping it out of the mud zone, where other drains of this nature tend to clog.  The drain works to collect water leaking from the basement wall, directing it to the proper disposal site, like a sump pump or discharge line. For the disposal site, Darin recommended our SuperSump sump pump. He explained that this pump was the perfect mix of effective and affordable, as it's engineered to help keep basements dry, even during times of heavy water intrusion. It boasts a powerful Zoeller® ⅓ horsepower cast-iron sump pump, capable of pumping 2,220 gallons of water per hour at an 8-foot head out of your basement. The homeowner liked the idea of the two products working hand in hand and decided to schedule his project for a month later.

On the day of the installation, our product crew, led by their Foreman, Kiko, headed out to the home to begin the project. First, they dug a trench around the perimeter of the basement for the placement of the sump. At the same time, they excavated a section of the basement for the placement of the sump pump. Next, one part of Kiko's team got to work laying the WaterGuard in the trench, while the other half built and installed the sump pump. Next, they covered the WaterGuard with a fresh layer of drainage stone and connected the WaterGuard to the SuperSump. To finish off the project, they covered the WaterGuard in a fresh layer of concrete to keep it in place. Now, our customer can enjoy his basement without worrying about stepping in any puddles!
