Leaky Basement Walls in Mankato, MN
Challenge
Basements can flood from pretty much anywhere, but especially foundation wall cracks. Water is extremely heavy and as the soil around the home becomes wet and moisturized, the soil expands and the weight of the water adds pressure to the foundation. The more pressure there is, the more water leakage there will be.
Amanda S. of Mankato, MN had water seepage in her unfinished basement. Her home was built in 1916 and her walls were made of brick and cement. Water would come in through the wall cracks and the old patch seams, causing the floor to get wet. Three years ago, only one side of the house was leaking water but before she knew it, all sides of the house got worse throughout the years. She got in contact with our office staff and scheduled an on-site free estimate with our Design Specialist, Dylan. Dylan went to her home, carefully inspected the problems that she was facing, and drew up a couple of different solutions that would solve her problems. Amanda was confident in one of Dylan's proposals and got all of her questions answered, so she signed his contract and set up a date for the installation.
Solution
Our Foreman, Jose, and his production team started the project by introducing themselves to Amanda and making sure she had no last-minute questions before they started the repairs. After a clear introduction, our team got to work and broke out the concrete floor perimeter with a jackhammer, forming a skinny waterway. In the waterway, our crew installed our WaterGuard System. Our WaterGuard is one of the most common waterproofing systems we provide for homeowners because of its ability to collect water leakage from basement walls, it serves as an underground drain, and it prevents water and mud clogs by staying out of the mud zone. Next, our crew installed our CleanSpace Wall System, which prevents mold and humidity, acts as an extra wall protectant, and covers uneven surfaces. Lastly, Jose and his crew installed our TripleSafe Sump Pump System, which provides two pumps and a battery back-up, comes with three layers of water protection, and solves all three water problems in one unit. To complete the installation, our team filled the open gaps with pea gravel and rock and applied new concrete over it, ensuring the basement was cleaner than when they found it. Amanda was very happy with the crew and thought they were polite and respectful!
