A homeowner from Dundee, MN, was at a home improvement store one day when he spotted an at-home radon gas testing kit. He didn't know much about the dangerous gas but decided to test his home nonetheless. He was surprised when the test came back with higher than normal levels. The homeowner was uneasy about his family breathing in the gas and decided to consult a specialist about the problem. When he found our website, he signed up for his FREE estimate, and several weeks later, Kevin B, one of our Design Specialists, was headed to the home.
Knowing the home had high radon levels, Kevin focused his inspection on finding a good space for a mitigation system, should the customer want to move forward. When he finished his inspection, he met with the homeowner. He explained that radon gas is a radioactive gas that comes from the breakdown of soil around your home's foundation. It finds its way into your space through holes and cracks in the foundation, silently wreaking havoc on the lining of the lungs. Kevin went on to say that radon gas is the second leading cause of lung cancer behind cigarette smoking, claiming 21,000 lives annually. Kevin could tell the homeowner was growing uneasy, so he reassured him that while the situation was serious, American Waterworks could help. Kevin strongly urged the homeowner to address the problem with our radon mitigation system. He explained that a typical radon mitigation system consists of a large-diameter plastic pipe that connects the air beneath your foundation to the outdoors. An in-line fan sucks radon-rich air from beneath your foundation and expels this hazardous air to the exterior. Instead of entering your basement or other living space area through numerous gaps and cracks in the foundation, radon gas is extracted from beneath your foundation before it can permeate into interior space. He went on to say that, when installed by an experienced professional, a mitigation system will lower the concentration of radon in the interior of the home to minimal levels recommended by the EPA and other health and safety agencies. The homeowner was relieved to know that Kevin had a solution for his household. He needed a few weeks to think about the project but ended up calling Kevin to schedule an installation date.
Our Foreman, Geno M, and his team arrived bright and early on the day of the project and got right to work. When they had finished installing the system, our homeowner was thrilled to know that his home was well on the way to circulating fresh air!
Todd and Wendie of Danube, MN, had significant issues with their damp basement, which had cracking and bowing walls. They decided to call American Waterworks for a FREE estimate, and shortly after the appointment was scheduled, our Design Specialist, Shane, headed out to the property.
Following the consultation and proposed solutions of waterproofing and foundation support, Todd scheduled an appointment for installation.
Our Foreman, Luis, and his production crew started the installation by implementing our PowerBrace Wall System and GeoLock Wall Anchors to correct the foundation issues. 7 PowerBraces and 11 GeoLocks were installed. The PowerBrace system is an I-shaped beam that stabilizes and helps straighten the bow of the wall over time. The PowerBrace system is drilled into the home's support beams and the concrete on which the home lies. The Geolock system stabilizes foundation walls by anchoring them to the hard-packed virgin soil beyond the foundation.
Next, the crew broke out the concrete floor perimeter and formed a trench. In the trench, our team installed our WaterGuard System. Our WaterGuard is a patented below-floor drain that rests in a drainage bed on top of the foundation footing. It is our most commonly used drain system because of its resistance to water clogs, easy-to-access service ports, and can collect leaking water from basement walls. They also installed our TripleSafe Sump Pump System. The TripleSafe Sump Pump System has three levels of protection to solve all water problems a homeowner may experience.
Along with the TripleSafe Sump Pump, there is a battery backup that helps in cases where power is lost in a home. The battery will keep the pumps draining any excess water build-up. To complete the WaterGuard project, Luis and his team covered the open gaps with rock and replaced the concrete.
The team then proceeded to install the CleanSpace wall System around the perimeter of the basement. Our CleanSpace Wall System is attached to the walls with plastic fasteners, so it never falls. It also prevents humidity from invading the walls and gives the basement a clean and bright appearance, with a 25-year warranty.
The couple was pleased with the outcome and glad they decided to go with Waterworks.
Dean S. of Paynesville, MN had an uneven and cracked front porch, causing him to worry about the appearance and value of his home. He got in contact with our office staff and scheduled a FREE Estimate with our Design Specialist, Jesse Williams. Jesse went to his home, inspected his porch, and came up with a solution. Dean was comfortable with Jesse's proposal of our PolyLevel and NexusPro, so he moved forward with the project.
Our Foreman, Dylon Mish, and his crew member injected our PolyLevel to raise the sidewalk to the meet the porch. Our PolyLevel is a special, expanding foam that is injected beneath the concrete to fill the gaps caused by soil erosion and to raise and stabilize the concrete surface. Next, our crew applied our NexusPro over the cracks. Not only does our NexusPro provide a clean and neat appearance, but it prevents moisture from seeping into the soil beneath the concrete and it stands up to harsh weather conditions.
Dean was happy with the repairs and loves the new view!
Lorelle J. from Paynesville, MN was experiencing excess water build-up due to the old sump pump that was installed in the home. This water build-up was damaging other parts of her home including the foundation. Lorelle then contacted the Appointment Center here at American Waterworks to claim her FREE estimate entitling her to a free home inspection. Once an appointment was scheduled, our Design Specialist then attended the home and began a thorough inspection of the home and the perimeter of the home to properly diagnose the issues Lorelle is experiencing and provide a proper solution that would not only eliminate the issue but prevent any other issues from arising. Once the inspection was completed our Design Specialist recommended that Lorrelle replace the old sump pump and invest in the TripleSafe Sump Pump system that we offer here at American WaterWorks. Lorelle agreed and proceeded to schedule a date of installation.
Our Foreman, Julio Murillo, and his designated crew then proceeded with the installation process by taking out the pre-existing sump pump and replacing it with the Triple-Safe Sump Pump System. The Triple-Safe Sump Pump System has three levels of protection which solves all water problems a homeowner may experience. Along with the Triple-Safe Sump Pump comes a battery backup which helps in the case of a power outage, keeping the basement dry and secure. To finish the job the crew proceeded to fill the gaps with engineer fill to prevent any sediment from entering the sump pump basket and affecting the pumps. Once backfilled the team then proceeds to put a layer of concrete to provide a finishing look. Lorelle was happy with the job and had a great experience with the production crew!!

Arlene O. of Avoca, MN had cracked foundation walls in her basement, making her worry about the stability of her home. After seeing an American Waterworks advertisement in her local newspaper, she called our office line to set up a FREE Estimate with our Design Specialist, Tom Ringeisen. Tom went to her home to inspect the cracks and come up with a solution. After a thorough inspection, Arlene got all her questions answered, so she went ahead with the project.
Our Foreman, Trevor Ellingson, and his production team began the project by digging small holes in her backyard, parallel to the foundation wall. From inside the basement, our crew installed a long, metal rod from the inside foundation wall to each hole outside. Then, our team screwed on and tightened a GeoLock Wall Anchor on the ends of each rod to pull back and straighten the foundation wall into its normal position. To complete the work, Trevor and his crew backfilled the holes and replaced the soil. Arlene couldn't believe how quickly they completed the work and had a remarkable experience from start to finish!
