A homeowner from Rochester, MN, was beginning the process of selling his home. Before he could confidently list his home, he knew there were several things he had to update or address. First, he was curious to see if his home had high radon levels. He knew his neighbor had recently had their home tested, so he decided to do the same. On the recommendation of a friend, he contacted American Waterworks and set up his FREE estimate. Several weeks later, our Design Specialist, Michel R, headed to the home.
When Michel arrived, the first portion of his inspection was to place a continuous radon monitoring test in the lowest level of the home. Michel explained to the homeowner that the goal of this test was to record radon levels in the home over a 48-hour time period, after which time Michel would return to read the average results. Michel informed the homeowner that, should the levels come back higher than 4 pCi/L, he would strongly recommend the installation of a radon mitigation system. Michel explained that a typical radon mitigation system consists of a large-diameter plastic pipe that connects the air beneath your foundation to the outdoors. An in-line fan sucks radon-rich air from beneath your foundation and expels this hazardous air to the exterior. Instead of entering your basement or other living space area through numerous gaps and cracks in the foundation, radon gas is extracted from beneath your foundation before it can permeate into interior space. He went on to say that, when installed by a professional, a radon mitigation system will lower the concentration of radon gas in your interior air to the minimal levels recommended by the EPA. The homeowner was very impressed with Michel's approach but decided to wait until her radon results returned. When the 48 hours were up, Michel arrived back at the home to read the results, which returned much higher than 4 pCi/L, so the homeowner and Michel sat down and found a day for the system to be installed.
On the day of the project, our Foreman, Geno M, and his team were able to successfully install the system. Now, our customer can confidently list his home for sale, knowing the new homeowners would be thankful for clean air!

April H. in Rochester, MN had water leaking into her basement and she was concerned about the damage it was causing to her home and the potential health implications it could cause. She contacted American Waterworks to receive a FREE estimate, so one of our Design Specialists, Mac Cole went to her home to inspect her basement and design the right solution. April was pleased with the proposal and was eager to have the waterproofing system installed, so she scheduled the installation.
Our Foreman, Austin Lucas, and his crew installed WaterGuard around the perimeter of the room and a TripleSafe sump pump in the corner. Our TripleSafe is backed by three layers of protection and is our most reliable sump pump. They also installed our CleanSpace vapor barrier along the walls to protect the room from moisture and potential mold growth. The WaterGuard properly drains water to the sump pump and from there, the water is pumped through the discharge line and expelled from the home. April is pleased that her basement is now a dry, healthier space and she is glad she chose to invest in the long-term protection of her home.
