Crawl Space Repair Before & After Photos

Jason and Tena B. of Winona, MN had water leaking into their basement, and they were worried about the value of their home. One of their peers referred them to American Waterworks for our basement waterproofing repairs, so they called our office line and scheduled a FREE inspection. Our Design Specialist, Chuck, went to their home, clearly inspected the problems they were facing, and drew out a planned proposal to solve the problem. Jason and Tena were confident in Chuck's proposal, so they went ahead with the repairs and scheduled a date for the installation.

Our Foreman, Kiko, and his production team began the project by breaking out the entire wall perimeter, forming a trench. In the trench, our team installed our WaterGuard Below-Drain System. Our WaterGuard prevents water and mud clogs, serves as an underground drain, and catches water seepage from basement walls so it does not flood the floor. Next, our team installed our CleanSpace Vapor Barrier System around the wall perimeter. Our CleanSpace acts as an extra wall protectant by covering any holes or divots and preventing any further mold or humidity build-up. It also gives the basement a neat and clean appearance. To finish the project, Kiko and his team covered the open gaps with river rock and pea gravel and applied new concrete over them. Jason and Tena were thrilled with the work and had a wonderful experience!

As soon as the estimate was set, we sent one of our Design Specialists, Ryan, to the home to take a closer look. Ryan arrived at the home and began his thorough investigation of the crawl space. During his investigation, Ryan confirmed the crawl space needed to be cleared and encapsulated. Ryan presented his findings and proposal to the homeowner. Knowing this was their best option, the homeowner decided to go ahead with Ryan's proposal. Next, Ryan sent the proposal to our Logistics team to have the plans approved. Our Logistics team built and scheduled the project, and then it was assigned to our Foreman, Kiko, and his crew. As soon as Kiko and his crew arrived, they began by clearing out the crawl space. Once the crawl space was cleared, the crew shifted their focus to installing Drainage Matting on the crawl space floor. Following the Drainage Matting, the crew shifted their focus to installing TerraBlock on the crawl space floor. Next, the crew attached CleanSpace to the crawl space walls and floors. Finally, the crew finished up by installing Foamax on the outside crawl space walls. After Kiko and his crew completed the installation, they cleaned up their materials and left the home. A Minnesota City, MN, homeowner had been keeping an eye on her energy bill throughout the summer. She noticed that her AC unit had been continually running, which seemed odd to her. When her bills returned higher than usual, she began to suspect an issue with her crawl space. She began the search for crawl space repairs in Minnesota and eventually found our website. Dustin completed his inspection and found that the humidity in the space was 68.3% RH. Typically, crawl spaces should be within the 50-60% range. Upwards of 60% can lead to the growth of mold and mildew, which would become precursors for wood rot. Dustin informed the homeowner that we could use several of our products to address the issue. First, Dustin wanted to use CleanSpace and drainage matting. CleanSpace is a 100% waterproof tarp-like material that gets adhered directly to to the unfinished walls of the crawl space. It works to trap water entering through the walls, draining it downward to the drainage matting and perimeter drains if applicable. If the CleanSpace had been installed flush with the ground of the space, trapped water wouldn't be able to flow to a disposal site. Drainage matting fis a dimpled layer of plastic that gives water flooding into the space a channel underneath the CleanSpace. In addition to these two products, Dustin recommended our AprilAire dehumidifier. Even a basement with an effective waterproofing system can still develop moisture and mold problems and may feel damp. Adding an Aprilaire dehumidifier creates healthy air and can reduce the number of viable viruses in the air to less than 1% in two days when set to 50% RH. The homeowner liked the sound of the plan and scheduled the job to be completed several weeks later. 

On the day of the installation, our Foreman, Jesus M, and his team installed 660 sqft of CleanSpace, 494 sqft of drainage matting, and 1 AprilAire dehumidifier. Now, our customer can enter the cold months knowing her home is protected from harsh weather conditions!
