In Fargo, ND, a homeowner had recently learned about radon. It is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that comes from the breakdown of soil beneath the home. When inhaled over a long-period of time, it increases the risk for lung cancer. Concerned their family was unknowingly breathing in the toxic gas, they decided to purchase a radon testing kit. After a couple of days, the test results exceeded 4 pCi/L, the EPA's recommended action level for radon. The homeowner then took action and contacted us to schedule their FREE radon mitigation inspection.
In less than a week, our Design Specialist, James N., arrived at the home for the inspection. During the inspection, he took a close look at the layout of the home and worked closely with the homeowner on the best placement of our radon mitigation system. James recommended having the fan installed at the exterior of the home and having it connect to the sump pump in the basement. A home in Renville, MN had major structural issues in the basement and the bank that owned the home knew that they value would be decreased if it was not repaired. The bank called American Waterworks to receive a FREE estimate, so we sent one of our Design Specialists, Shane Nephew, to the home to meet with a bank representative. Shane designed a plan to permanently repair the foundation using wall anchors, and the bank approved of the solution, so we scheduled an installation.
Our crew drilled long, metal rods through the block foundation wall and into the soil surrounding the home. They secured the rods by installing anchor plates on each end and tightening them as far as they could go. The anchors should continue to be tightened over time as well to help straighten the wall back to its original position. Our wall anchors are also backed by a lifetime warranty that is transferable between homeowners. The foundation has been permanently stabilized.
