A homeowner from Staples, MN was beginning to notice a musty odor originating from her crawl space beneath her home. Not wanting the issue to worsen, she decided to call American Waterworks and take advantage of our FREE estimates, and a few weeks later our Design Specialist, Ian, headed out to the home.
After Ian completed his thorough inspection, he informed the homeowner that she was experiencing odors because of water damage in the crawl space. He told the homeowner that crawl spaces are notorious for taking on unwanted water, completely unannounced to homeowners because crawl spaces are so hard to access and maintain. He went on to say that American Waterworks could offer a solution to this issue, by installing our crawl space vapor barrier and drainage matting. Ian explained that these two products work hand in hand to catch water entering the space through cracks or porous holes in the foundation, draining it to the appropriate disposal site. The homeowner agreed and work was scheduled for a few weeks later.
On the day of the installation, our Foreman, Kingsley, and his team ended up installing 84 ft of CleanSpace and another 84 ft of draining mating. Now that the crawl space is properly sealed, our homeowner can enjoy an odor-free home!

Mark and Sharron of Miltona, MN, were noticing musty, damp smells coming from their dirt crawlspace. They knew the importance of encapsulating their crawlspace to protect against odors, rodents, insects, and more, especially since they planned to keep their lake home for a long time. After doing some research, they decided to call American Waterworks and were set up with a FREE inspection. A few weeks later, our Design Specialist, Ian, headed out to the property. Once he completed his walkthrough, he made recommendations as to how American Waterworks could help. Our customers agreed with the recommendations, and work began shortly after.
Our Foreman, Ryan, and his crew began by installing our drainage matting; a dimpled matting that gets installed onto the floor of the crawl space, giving any excess water a route to flow through the space and be disposed of at an external site such as a drain or a sump system. The second installation was our CleanSpace vapor barrier, a 100% waterproof tarp that works to trap any excess moisture in the space, redirecting it to the appropriate disposal site.
Finally, our team added an Aprilaire dehumidifier, which creates healthy air and can reduce the number of viable viruses in the air to less than 1% in two days' time when set to 50% relative humidity. This and our crawl space liner will create a drier, healthier crawl space. Our crawl space liner is made with seven layers of tough, durable material that's designed to withstand traffic from the homeowner and workers -- with a 25-year written, transferable warranty! Mark and Sharron were very pleased with the results and grateful their peace of mind was restored.
Josh K. of Wadena, MN was doing a lot of remodeling to his home, so he wanted to have his crawl space encapsulated too. He worked with American Waterworks for the project.
